Spurs should have sold star who’s earning more than Bissouma & Van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur have not had the ideal start to the season, but under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance, there is still hope for the year ahead. Last season, Tottenham created 90 big chances in the Premier League, with only Liverpool (102), Manchester City, and Newcastle United (both 97) creating more.

This season’s early matches suggest that Spurs continue to play stylish football and possess various tools to break down opponents.

Their 48 shots so far are only outdone by Nottingham Forest (53) at this point, and their 68.3% average possession highlights Postecoglou’s tactical approach, emphasizing bold ball movement. However, Tottenham have only earned four points from nine available.

Despite the high possession stats, there’s a need for improved finishing. Richarlison, who was signed for £60m from Everton in July 2022, has not lived up to expectations. His debut season was disappointing, and although he showed improvement last year, he struggled with injuries and inconsistency. There were rumors that Tottenham might consider selling him, with interest from Saudi Pro League teams.

Richarlison’s performance has not justified his price tag, and while he has had moments of brilliance, his overall contribution under Postecoglou remains questionable. Heung-min Son has been effective in his absence, demonstrating top-level finishing. With Richarlison’s recent missed chances and ongoing issues, it might be worth considering a new striker, such as Jonathan David, who has been linked with a move away from Lille.
