The Buffalo Bills have earned another opportunity to challenge the mighty Kansas City Chiefs and attempt to break their dominance.
After a thrilling 27-25 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, the Bills secured their place in the AFC Championship Game, where they will travel to Kansas City to face the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
“We know what they are. They’re the standard of what every team in the NFL strives to be,” said Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen, speaking via The Associated Press. “To get past them, you have to beat them. We’re going to savor this victory tonight, but tomorrow it’s all about getting ready for what’s ahead.”
In their regular-season matchup in Week 11, the Bills triumphed over the Chiefs, with Allen scoring the game-sealing touchdown in a 30-21 win. This victory marked the fourth straight regular-season win for Buffalo over Kansas City, a notable accomplishment considering the Chiefs’ status as one of the league’s top teams. However, the Bills have struggled in the postseason against Kansas City, having lost three consecutive playoff games to the Chiefs in 2020, 2021, and 2023.
Allen is well aware that the team they face now will not be the same as the one they defeated in November. Both teams have changed, and the Chiefs have made significant improvements since their mid-season meeting.
“The regular season is what it is,” Allen acknowledged. “It doesn’t matter how well you play there. When you reach the playoffs, what’s done is done. Beating a team twice is always tough, and we know that. We beat them earlier this season, but they’re not the same team now. They’ve added some key players back to both their defense and offense. I haven’t had a chance to dive deep into their current form yet since I’ve been focused on the Ravens, but we’ll start that preparation tomorrow.”
Buffalo enters the AFC Championship Game after a well-rounded performance against Baltimore, with Allen leading his team in all aspects. Despite having no first-team All-Pro players on their roster, the Bills proved their ability to compete with the NFL’s elite, earning the right to challenge the defending champions for a Super Bowl berth.
“It was a complete team win,” Allen said after the victory. “All season long, we’ve heard people doubting us—saying we don’t have enough talent, that we’re too small, that we can’t stop the run, or that we’re not good enough to compete. But we’ve kept our heads down and put in the work. I’m incredibly proud of our defense, offense, and special teams.”
