Harry Kane has shared his thoughts ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s highly anticipated Europa League final showdown with Manchester United, as his former club looks to end a long and painful wait for silverware.
Kane, who is Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer, finally lifted his first major trophy this season after securing the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich. “It’s been a tough season obviously for Tottenham in the league,” he said. “But this final gives them a real chance to turn things around and make it one of the most memorable seasons in recent history.”
The Bayern striker added that his bond with the club remains strong, despite moving on to Germany last summer. “I still have a lot of friends there – among the players and the staff – and I know how much this opportunity means to them. It means a lot to the fans too. They’ve been waiting for a moment like this for a long time.”
Acknowledging the threat posed by Manchester United, Kane admitted the Red Devils have more experience in high-stakes matches but insisted Tottenham are more than capable of upsetting the odds.
“Finals are always tough,” he continued. “United might have a bit more experience in these kinds of games, but Tottenham have shown throughout the season that they can rise to any challenge. They absolutely deserve to be in this final, and on their day, they can beat anyone.”
As for his own plans on matchday, Kane revealed he won’t be in attendance but will still be closely following the action.
“I’ll be away with my wife somewhere relaxing,” he said. “But I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the game. I really hope the lads can get the job done – I wish them all the best.”
