The New York Jets face uncertainty at quarterback heading into the pivotal 2025 offseason. With Aaron Rodgers’ future unclear, the team may explore drafting a replacement in the NFL Draft. However, this year’s quarterback class isn’t highly regarded, and the Jets are unlikely to secure top prospects Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward.
One intriguing option for the Jets is Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, who recently declared for the draft. While his stock has dipped slightly, Milroe could still be among the top three quarterbacks selected and a potential top-50 pick in a weak class.
Milroe, a former four-star recruit, became Alabama’s starting quarterback in 2023 after redshirting and backing up Bryce Young. He led the team to an 11-2 record and an SEC Championship, throwing 23 touchdowns with just six interceptions, while also showcasing his dual-threat ability with 531 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
His 2024 season, however, was less impressive. Despite rushing for 726 yards and 20 touchdowns, his passing performance declined, with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Concerns have emerged about his ability to adapt to the NFL, as he relies heavily on athleticism and needs to refine his pocket presence and footwork.
At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, Milroe possesses elite physical tools, combining arm strength, athleticism, and size. However, his development as a pocket passer and consistency need improvement. Once seen as a potential top-five pick, Milroe is now viewed as a fringe first-rounder in this draft class.
The Jets, likely picking in the top 10, may hesitate to select Milroe unless their new leadership feels confident in his long-term potential. If Milroe slides to Day 2, he could be an appealing developmental option for the team, especially if the new general manager and head coach see value in his skill set.
While it’s too early to predict the Jets’ draft strategy, Milroe’s unique abilities make him an intriguing candidate. Whether the team invests in his upside will depend on their vision for the future.
