Celtic pursued several striker options during the winter transfer window but ultimately failed to secure a replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi. One of their targets was David Strelec from Slovan Bratislava, a club they previously faced in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite late efforts to finalize the deal, Strelec’s agent confirmed that the transfer would not go through. His father, Milan Strelec, later spoke to Slovakian outlet *Sport 24*, explaining that while a move to Celtic would have been exciting, his son remains professional and focused on helping Slovan Bratislava win the league and qualify for the Champions League.
Reports suggest Celtic made a last-minute £8 million bid, but Slovan Bratislava held firm on their £9.5 million valuation. After the transfer window closed, Strelec’s agent, Michal Cerny, confirmed that, for now, the deal is off the table.
