‘Dangerous’ star ‘pushing’ to join Tottenham after Arsenal talks stalled

Tottenham Hotspur Handed Major Boost in Pursuit of Premier League Star as Eberechi Eze Eyes North London Switch Over Rivals

Tottenham Hotspur’s ambitions for the upcoming season have been given a significant lift following reports that one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking talents is eager to make the switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium—despite interest from several of England’s biggest clubs, including arch-rivals Arsenal and Premier League heavyweights Manchester United.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham had eventful 2024/25 campaigns, albeit with contrasting fortunes. The Gunners, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, mounted another serious title challenge, finishing second in the Premier League for the second consecutive year while also reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Their performances confirmed that Arteta’s long-term project continues to make progress, even if the elusive league title remains out of reach.

Spurs, on the other hand, endured a turbulent domestic campaign, struggling for consistency in the Premier League. However, they enjoyed a glorious European run, lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy and, with it, securing a place in next season’s Champions League. This success marked a high point that somewhat redeemed an otherwise disappointing season and ushered in fresh optimism for the future under newly appointed manager Thomas Frank.

As both North London clubs look to build stronger, more competitive squads to challenge for major silverware in the upcoming campaign, the transfer market has become the latest battleground in their fierce rivalry.

While Arsenal are yet to make a signing in the current transfer window, Tottenham have moved quickly to reinforce their ranks. They have already sealed the permanent signings of promising forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich and experienced centre-back Kevin Danso from French side Lens. Additionally, Luka Vuskovic, a highly rated young defender from Hajduk Split, is set to officially join the club after an agreement was reached last September.

Now, Spurs have set their sights on another marquee addition—Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze. The 26-year-old, who dazzled throughout the 2024/25 season, has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents in the league. According to reports from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are prepared to activate the £68 million release clause in Eze’s contract to bring him to North London. They are also considering a player-plus-cash package as an alternative proposal to tempt Palace into a deal.

Tottenham are not alone in their admiration for Eze. Several high-profile clubs—including Manchester United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich—have all expressed interest in the England international. Arsenal have also been closely monitoring the attacking midfielder, who has caught the eye with his creativity, vision, and goal-scoring prowess.

Eze capped off a stellar season by scoring the decisive goal in Crystal Palace’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May, delivering the Eagles their first major trophy in decades. Across the 2024/25 season, he registered 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions. Palace boss Oliver Glasner has been full of praise for Eze, calling him “absolutely top” and an “unbelievable finisher” in comments made to The Independent in September 2024.

In a fresh update from TBR Football, it has now been revealed that Eze has made Tottenham his preferred destination. The report claims that the player is pushing for a move and has made it clear he wants to work under Thomas Frank in what is shaping up to be a new era at the club. According to the source, “one of Frank’s top targets is now eager to join him in North London and is pushing to leave his current club.”

Despite Eze’s representatives holding discussions with multiple interested clubs—including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Aston Villa—it appears the attacking midfielder is firmly leaning toward joining Spurs. Tottenham are reportedly confident that they will win the race for his signature, believing that their clear vision, Champions League qualification, and Frank’s tactical plans are key factors swaying the player’s decision.

However, it’s not all good news for Spurs in the transfer market. The club has been dealt a setback in their efforts to sign Real Betis midfielder Jhonny Cardoso. The USA international has been on Tottenham’s radar for some time, and they even secured a first-refusal clause on any future transfer. Despite their interest, Cardoso appears to be heading to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher reported on June 3 that although Tottenham remain admirers of the 23-year-old midfielder, sources have confirmed Cardoso prefers a move to the Spanish capital. Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has also weighed in on the situation, stating on June 24 via X (formerly Twitter) that a deal between Atletico Madrid and Real Betis is “imminent,” with negotiations in the final stages over a package worth over €30 million.

While Spurs will miss out on adding Cardoso to their midfield options, there is still a silver lining. Dean Jones of Ranks FC revealed that should Cardoso complete his move elsewhere, Tottenham will still receive a financial benefit due to their first-refusal clause, which entitles them to a fee from the transfer.

Meanwhile, reports from Spain have also surfaced suggesting that one of Tottenham’s top stars has attracted serious interest from Real Madrid. Although the player’s identity has not been officially confirmed, speculation continues to mount over possible outgoings from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the club balances its books and considers reinforcements.

Tottenham are also said to be closing in on the signing of another central defender to bolster their backline—a position that Frank is understood to view as a priority.

In addition, with persistent speculation surrounding the future of Richarlison, Tottenham are believed to be lining up a potential replacement for the Brazilian striker. The club is carefully weighing up their options in attack and could reshape their frontline should the right offer come in for Richarlison during the summer window.

With Eze now reportedly eager to join the project in North London and Spurs making swift moves in the market, Tottenham fans will be hopeful that a transformative summer lies ahead—one that sets the stage for a much stronger Premier League campaign and a deep run in next season’s Champions League.
