Former Sunderland scout Mick Brown is saying silly things about Newcastle United again
It’s summer transfer window time, so of course, there are going to be some outlandish rumours flying about linking Newcastle United with players that are unrealistic or simply don’t make sense.
We understand that this is part of the game, and in all honesty, it can be quite fun, but sometimes you get someone who is clearly just making things up to amuse themselves.
Former Sunderland and Manchester United scout, Mick Brown, has somehow been granted magical powers at Football Insider that allow him to operate as a credible source, and they just print whatever he says, verbatim, with no sanity checks in place.
It’s a hell of a gig for Mick Brown, and we don’t begrudge him earning himself a bit of coin on the side doing it, but he could at least make things believable. He may be reliable for other clubs, but practically everything he’s ever said about Newcastle United has been so far wide of the mark you could compare it to a Darwin Nunez shot. The latest from the Football Insider ‘insider’ is that Eddie Howe is looking to bring Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League.
Newcastle are having a look at Conor Gallagher. There have been suggestions he could be allowed to leave Atletico Madrid, because he hasn’t managed to nail down his place in the starting XI. Newcastle are the type of team who would be prepared to let him play his game.I hear Eddie Howe is a big fan of his as well, so it would be a great fit for him.A lot of it will depend on what Atletico Madrid are going to ask for him and what Newcastle are going to be prepared to pay.
But it’s a position they want to improve in, especially if they’re going to let the likes of Longstaff and Miley leave in the background.”Brown is absolutely right that Gallagher hasn’t managed to nail down a place in Atletico’s starting XI, but it was only a couple of weeks ago that he was speaking to Transfermarkt about how much he’s learned and how he wants to improve next season in La Liga. It doesn’t sound like he’s pining for a return to England.
Meanwhile, Gallagher has been linked with Everton and Tottenham before Newcastle, so clearly his agent is out there starting rumours so that Atletico make a move, or maybe his agent is looking for a new club for him.
We can’t see it being Newcastle, though. The Magpies have been linked to Gallagher in the past. Again, it always felt more like media talk than being based on any kind of truth, but the big thing is … where does he fit at Newcastle?
He’s not better than Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes or Sandro Tonali, and being an England international (somehow), he won’t want to move to a club to sit on the bench. It’s an absolute non-starter … we hope
