Tottenham set to sign Morgan Gibbs-White after triggering £60m release clause

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing the high-profile signing of Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest after activating his £60 million release clause. The dynamic England international is expected to undergo a medical at Hotspur Way on Friday, with the transfer likely to be finalised within the next 24 hours. Once completed, Gibbs-White will become one of the marquee additions to Thomas Frank’s rapidly evolving Spurs squad.

Gibbs-White, 25, has been a standout performer for Forest since arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022. The initial deal was worth £25 million, but performance-related bonuses pushed the total value up to around £42.5 million. His impressive form in the Premier League last season — where he scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 34 appearances — caught the attention of several top clubs, including reigning champions Manchester City. However, Tottenham have acted decisively to win the race for his signature.

The attacking midfielder is expected to pen a long-term deal that will keep him in North London for the foreseeable future, adding creativity, flair, and energy to Spurs’ midfield options. His arrival is part of a wider transfer strategy being executed by the club, as they look to build on their recent European success and mount a serious domestic title challenge under Frank.

Gibbs-White is not the only major signing Spurs have made this summer. The club recently secured the services of Ghanaian playmaker Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United in a deal reportedly worth £54.5 million. Kudus, who was a key figure for the Hammers last season, will bring further attacking potency and versatility to the Spurs frontline.

In addition, the club finalized a move for 20-year-old Japanese centre-back Kota Takai, who arrives from J League outfit Kawasaki Frontale. Takai is considered one of Asia’s brightest young defensive talents and will offer squad depth and long-term potential. Meanwhile, Tottenham also made the loan move of France forward Mathys Tel permanent, with the attacker joining from Bayern Munich. Tel was Frank’s first official signing since taking over as manager and is expected to play a greater role this season.

Tottenham’s recruitment drive doesn’t appear to be slowing down. The club has maintained a strong interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, as well as Brentford duo Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa. Another name high on their radar is Southampton’s teenage talent Tyler Dibling. The 18-year-old midfielder had a breakthrough season for the Saints and, despite the club’s relegation, impressed enough to earn attention from top-tier sides. Spurs are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest face the risk of a summer exodus. In addition to Gibbs-White’s imminent departure, the club is expected to lose another key attacker in Anthony Elanga. The Swedish winger is reportedly close to joining Newcastle United in a deal worth around £55 million, further depleting Forest’s attacking ranks.

Tottenham’s aggressive transfer activity signals a clear intent to reshape the squad with quality and depth, and the addition of Gibbs-White marks a significant step forward in their summer rebuild.
