Tottenham Hotspur appear to be on the verge of pulling off one of the most eye-catching transfer coups of the summer, with reports suggesting the North London club are pushing ahead with a blockbuster double deal in the final days of the window. Thomas Frank’s side are said to be intensifying their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho while also making significant progress in negotiations to bring in Monaco playmaker Maghnes Akliouche.
The transfer deadline on September 1 is fast approaching, and while Tottenham’s start to the season on the pitch has been hugely encouraging, there is still a strong desire behind the scenes to strengthen the squad further.
A frustrating window turning around?
For much of the summer, Spurs boss Thomas Frank has endured his fair share of frustrations in the market. High-profile moves for Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze collapsed late in negotiations despite weeks of groundwork, leaving the Dane disappointed at missing out on two of his most wanted attacking midfielders.
However, despite the difficulties off the pitch, Tottenham’s performances on it have sparked optimism. Frank’s men have opened the new Premier League campaign in perfect fashion, winning both of their first two matches, including a statement-making victory away at reigning champions Manchester City. New signings Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus were instrumental in that success, immediately showing why Spurs were willing to invest heavily in their talents.
Yet Frank has made it clear in recent interviews that he views the squad as a work in progress. He is still keen to add a creative No.10, a left winger, and potentially another centre-back to ensure Tottenham can compete on all fronts this season.
Savinho deal in the works
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are now locked in negotiations with Manchester City over Savinho. The 20-year-old Brazilian, currently regarded as one of the brightest attacking prospects in Europe, has been identified as a major target by the North London club. Spurs are believed to be preparing an offer worth in excess of £70 million, though City are pushing for closer to £80 million before sanctioning a sale. Pep Guardiola is reluctant to part with the youngster, who many at the Etihad see as a star-in-the-making, but Tottenham are pushing hard to strike a deal before the deadline.
Landing Savinho would give Frank another explosive wide option, capable of both creating and scoring goals. His raw pace, dribbling flair, and directness would offer Tottenham a new dimension in attack, particularly with Dejan Kulusevski currently sidelined until the turn of the year.
Akliouche talks also advancing
But Tottenham’s ambitions do not stop there. In what could turn into a remarkable double swoop, the club have also accelerated talks for Monaco’s highly rated playmaker Maghnes Akliouche.
The 23-year-old France Under-21 international has been on Tottenham’s radar for months, with scouts impressed by his versatility and composure in possession. Capable of operating out wide or centrally as an attacking midfielder, Akliouche is viewed as a potential long-term successor to James Maddison, who is currently sidelined through injury.
According to Football Insider, Monaco are open to selling the talented midfielder for around £47.5 million, a fee Spurs are seriously considering meeting. Journalist Pete O’Rourke described Akliouche as “one of the most exciting young talents in Ligue 1,” praising his ability to operate either as a winger or in the No.10 role.
Last season, Akliouche contributed seven goals and 12 assists across 42 appearances for Monaco. Known for his vision, two-footedness, and ability to glide past defenders, he has drawn comparisons to some of the finest creative players to emerge from France in recent years. While he may initially provide depth on the right flank, the expectation is that he will eventually transition into a central playmaking role once he settles into English football.
A boost for Frank and Spurs’ ambitions
If both Savinho and Akliouche arrive before the September 1 deadline, it would represent a significant turnaround in Tottenham’s transfer fortunes. Missing out on Gibbs-White and Eze was a blow, but adding two of Europe’s brightest young attacking prospects would transform Frank’s options heading into the remainder of the season.
Their arrivals would also help offset the current lack of creativity in Spurs’ squad, especially with Maddison out injured and Kulusevski’s fitness concerns. Crucially, it would provide Tottenham with greater depth and versatility, allowing Frank to rotate his squad without a major drop-off in quality.
While negotiations are ongoing and both deals remain complex, the growing sense is that Tottenham are prepared to back their manager with decisive late-market moves. Should Savinho and Akliouche both arrive in North London, Spurs would not only silence their critics after a mixed summer window but also underline their intent to push for silverware and a top-four finish this season.
