According to Fabrizio: Spurs make phone call to sign £75m Bournemouth star after talks in last 24 hours

Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their transfer efforts once again, this time opening talks with Bournemouth over the possibility of signing forward Antoine Semenyo. According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have made enquiries about the Ghanaian attacker as they continue their determined search for reinforcements in the final third before the transfer window slams shut.

 

Semenyo has been one of Bournemouth’s standout performers in recent seasons, his explosive pace and direct style of play making him a nightmare for Premier League defenders. His progress was rewarded earlier this summer when he penned a fresh deal at the Vitality Stadium, further underlining his importance to Andoni Iraola’s squad. The Cherries, who had already valued the 24-year-old at around £75 million even before his contract extension, are understandably reluctant to sanction his departure—especially after losing several key players during this window.

 

Tottenham’s renewed pursuit of attacking options comes at a critical moment. The north London club were dealt a significant blow when it was confirmed that star playmaker James Maddison will miss the majority of the season through injury. With creative responsibility suddenly much thinner in Ange Postecoglou’s side, Spurs’ hierarchy have been scrambling to identify suitable replacements who can step in and provide a spark in the attacking third.

 

Earlier in the window, Tottenham explored ambitious moves for Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White. Both negotiations reached advanced stages but eventually broke down, leaving Spurs frustrated and without their preferred targets. This setback has forced the club to widen their search, and Semenyo has now emerged as a name high on their radar.

 

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, shed light on Tottenham’s current market activity. “In the last 24 to 48 hours, Tottenham also made calls for other players,” Romano explained. “They wanted to understand the situation of Lucas Paquetá at West Ham—another player they have admired for some time. But now, with the market so late, it’s difficult. Another name internally discussed is Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. Spurs are preparing to make final decisions very soon. For sure, Tottenham will remain active until the end of the window. It’s not over at all, and they are optimistic about finding the right solutions.”

 

Despite Tottenham’s interest, the chances of Bournemouth entertaining an offer at this stage of the window appear slim. Having already lost the likes of Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, and Ilya Zabarnyi earlier in the summer, the Cherries would be taking a significant risk by weakening their squad further. Semenyo, who has become one of Iraola’s most reliable attacking outlets, would be an especially difficult player to replace with so little time remaining before the deadline.

 

For Spurs, however, the pursuit highlights both their ambition and their desperation. Postecoglou has been clear about wanting more dynamism in the forward line, and with the club still competing on multiple fronts, the pressure is on the recruitment team to deliver. Whether Bournemouth can be convinced to part ways with their prized asset remains doubtful, but Tottenham’s late push ensures the story is far from over.
