HUGE UPDATE- Tottenham Expert shares Micky van de Ven exit verdict amid £120m+ transfer claim
John Wenham believes any club interested in Micky van de Ven would have to pay more than £120million to sign the Tottenham defender.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose can’t see the Dutch international leaving the club anytime soon.
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has suggested Tottenham could struggle to keep hold of van de Ven.
But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims that any club would need to pay at least triple the £43million which Spurs paid to sign the 22-year-old (Sky Sports News, 8 August 2023).
“I am not worried about losing van de Ven,” Wenham said.
“He has got every attribute which clubs are looking for in a modern centre-back, and he is young too.“He’s only getting better every single time he plays, and he is contracted with Spurs until 2029.“We’re talking about arguably one of the best left-footed centre-backs in the world.“I don’t want to put a price on him, but any club would need to pay at least triple the value of the deal which we agreed for him.”
Micky van de Ven is priceless to Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham
It could be argued that van de Ven is worth even more than £120million to Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou likes to play with a high line, and the Dutchman’s pace is what allows that to happen.
Time and time again this season van de Ven has bailed Tottenham out with his recovery speed.
Without him, the team would have to completely change the way that they play.
It could therefore be argued that the centre-back is priceless to Spurs and Postecoglou.
In other news, Kyle Walker made a comment about his spell at Tottenham Hotspur after winning the Premier League with Manchester City yesterday.
The former Tottenham man pipped his old rivals Arsenal to the title with a 3-1 victory over West Ham on the final day of the season.
Having left Spurs back in the summer of 2017, Kyle Walker scooped his sixth Premier League title since his switch to the Etihad Stadium.
Spurs fans will undoubtedly be relieved that it came at the expense of Arsenal, with their north London rivals finishing two points off the pace.
The 33-year-old spoke to Sky Sports after picking up his 15th major trophy and mentioned his former side Spurs.
Walker makes Tottenham comment after Premier League title win
It’s no secret that Walker emerged as one of the best full-backs in the country during his time at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino.
He and Danny Rose formed an exceptional full-back pairing and were often tasked with flying forward to support Tottenham’s attack.
His role has somewhat changed at City as he’s often their last line of defence due to his blistering pace and ability to recover, with Harry Kane recently labelling him as the fastest player he’s played alongside.
And when asked about how the tactical set-up at City suits him, Walker mentioned his role at Tottenham.
When I was at Tottenham, I was a wing-back so coming here, it was different,” the Englishman said. “Pep didn’t see the certain qualities I had in my game and he thought that he would do something different.That’s what’s the best with him, everyone has qualities, I say everyone has a superpower. De Bruyne, his passing. Erling Haaland, his finishing. Foden, small tight spaces. Jeremy Doku, one on one. I could go through them all.
“My superpower is my pace and I’m a cornerback in the NFL. I just try and do what I need to do for the team.
“Ok, I’m not going to get the assists and the goals that I probably did at Tottenham but I don’t care as long as we’ve got one of these [medal] round our necks at the end of the season.”
What Walker said about Spurs after City game last week
A defining moment in Walker’s season came at Tottenham last Tuesday as City picked up a crucial 2-0 win in north London.
It was a happy return for the Englishman and proved vital in City’s bid to lift their fourth consecutive title.
There was plenty of noise surrounding the game as Spurs could have handed the title to Arsenal had they picked up a result against the champions. But Walker was quick to praise his former side’s effort on the night.
“We’re competitors and people have to understand, never mind if it’s a training session or a game in the Premier League, Spurs could still have gone on and got the Champions League. Aston Villa going to Crystal Palace was still a difficult game,” he said.
“You could see they were putting everything on the line to try and win the game, which as professionals they are meant to do. But from a Man City point of view, we had to block all that.”
