Tottenham Fans Convinced ‘Disgrace’ Will Get Them Relegated After 3-1 Loss vs Palace

Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another damaging setback in their fight to remain in the Premier League after falling to a 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace. The loss leaves Spurs in a perilous position near the bottom of the table, and frustration among supporters has reached new levels—particularly toward goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, whose performance has come under intense scrutiny.

Spurs collapse after early promise

The evening initially appeared to be going Tottenham’s way. Palace forward Ismaila Sarr thought he had given the visitors the lead early in the match, but his effort was ruled out for offside, providing Spurs with a significant let-off.

Moments later, the hosts took full advantage of that reprieve. A quick move forward ended with striker Dominic Solanke finding the back of the net to put Tottenham ahead and lift the mood inside the stadium.

However, the momentum of the match changed dramatically soon after. Defender Micky van de Ven hauled down Sarr inside the penalty area as the Palace attacker burst through on goal. The challenge left the referee with little choice but to issue a straight red card, reducing Tottenham to ten men and handing Palace a golden opportunity to respond.

Sarr stepped up to take the resulting penalty and made no mistake from the spot, calmly slotting the ball past Vicario to level the score.

First-half disaster for Tottenham

If Tottenham fans were hoping their side could regroup before the break, those hopes were quickly dashed. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Palace midfielder Adam Wharton capitalized on a Tottenham mistake in possession, sliding a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of striker Jørgen Strand Larsen.

The forward kept his composure and finished from close range to give Palace the lead, turning the game completely on its head.

Only minutes later, the visitors struck again. Wharton once more unlocked the Spurs defence with another incisive pass, releasing Sarr behind the back line. The Senegal international kept his cool and poked the ball past Vicario to secure his second goal of the night and put Palace firmly in control heading into halftime.

Tottenham unable to complete comeback

At the start of the second half, Tottenham manager Igor Tudor made early changes in an attempt to spark a response from his side. Despite being a man down, Spurs did show greater attacking intent after the interval and created a handful of chances.

Yet the comeback never truly materialized. Palace remained organized defensively, while Tottenham lacked the cutting edge required to turn pressure into goals. When the final whistle blew, the defeat left Spurs hovering just a single point above the relegation zone—an alarming position for a club of their stature.

Vicario’s costly errors spark outrage

Although Van de Ven’s red card played a significant role in shifting the momentum of the match, many supporters have instead directed their anger at Vicario.

The Italian goalkeeper endured a difficult night between the posts and was widely blamed for two of Palace’s goals. For the second goal, Vicario appeared slow to react as Strand Larsen finished through his legs, leaving a large gap that the striker exploited with ease.

The third goal only added to the criticism. Vicario hesitated when deciding whether to come off his line to sweep up Wharton’s pass, allowing Sarr the time and space needed to score. Defenders such as Pedro Porro and Kevin Danso could be seen looking frustrated as the ball rolled past their goalkeeper.

Statistically, the performance was equally troubling. Earlier in the 2025/26 season Vicario had been among the league leaders for goals prevented, but his form has dramatically declined in recent months. Against Palace, he managed just one save and conceded roughly 1.46 goals more than the expected goals model suggested he should have allowed.

Fans lose patience with Tottenham goalkeeper

The display proved to be the breaking point for many Tottenham supporters, who took to social media to vent their frustration.

One fan wrote: “Vicario is fighting to get us relegated.” Another supporter went even further, saying: “I detest Vicario. He’s an absolute disgrace.”

Others questioned why he continues to start matches, with one post reading: “How many more mistakes does Vicario have to make to be dropped? He is useless.”

A particularly harsh comment described him as “the worst player in the league, never mind goalkeeper,” while another angry fan insisted: “Vicario better never play for this club again. Absolute clown.”

There were even sarcastic remarks about his shot-stopping ability, with one supporter joking that the Italian “can’t save a Word document.”

Pressure mounting on Tudor

With Tottenham’s relegation battle intensifying, manager Igor Tudor now faces a difficult decision regarding his goalkeeper. Teams fighting for survival often rely on strong leadership and reliability at the back, and Vicario’s recent performances have raised doubts about whether he can provide that stability.

If Spurs are to avoid the unthinkable drop from the Premier League, Tudor may soon be forced to consider alternative options in goal.

For now, however, the defeat to Crystal Palace has only deepened Tottenham’s crisis—and the anger directed at Vicario highlights just how desperate the situation has become for the North London club.
