Tottenham dressing room’s ‘telling’ reaction as spiky Igor Tudor singles out four players

Tottenham Hotspur manager Igor Tudor insisted he saw encouraging signs inside the dressing room despite his side suffering another damaging defeat, this time a 3–1 loss to Crystal Palace. The result marked Tudor’s third consecutive defeat since taking interim charge in north London and has left Spurs hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, sitting just a single point above the drop.

Although the result deepened the club’s struggles, Tudor revealed after the match that he actually feels more confident about the squad than he did before kick-off. The Croatian coach pointed to the spirit he witnessed from his players, particularly after the game dramatically shifted in the second half.

Spurs had started brightly and looked on course to claim a vital result when striker Dominic Solanke fired the hosts into the lead. However, the momentum of the match swung sharply following the dismissal of defender Micky van de Ven, a moment Tudor admitted changed the entire complexion of the contest.

With Spurs down to ten men, Palace capitalised ruthlessly. Ismaila Sarr struck twice to put the visitors in control before Jorgen Strand Larsen added another goal to seal a convincing comeback for the Eagles, leaving the home supporters stunned and frustrated.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Tudor said the match gave him a clearer understanding of his squad and their mentality.

Speaking after the final whistle, he explained that the performance — especially the reaction after the red card — actually strengthened his belief in the players.

“After this game I believe in them more than before. Maybe it sounds strange, but that’s how I feel,” Tudor said. “I saw something in the team, something positive. Even now in the dressing room after the game I could feel it.”

The former Juventus and Marseille boss suggested that once he has a fully available squad and can select the right combinations of players, Tottenham will begin to show improvement.

“When we are complete and I can choose the right guys, it will be good. I truly believe that,” he added.

When pressed further about the reasons for his optimism, Tudor highlighted the attitude and determination he observed from the players, insisting the desire to turn things around is present within the squad. According to him, the team showed signs of fight and passion that could become the foundation for a recovery.

“I saw good energy, a real desire to do something, passion,” Tudor explained. “The fight was there. That’s important for me.”

Interestingly, the Croatian also pointed toward a group of defenders he believes will be key to helping Spurs stabilise their performances in the coming weeks. Some of those players have been unavailable recently, which he hinted has disrupted the balance of the team.

With Tottenham now dragged into a tense relegation battle, questions about pressure naturally followed in the post-match discussion. However, Tudor was quick to shut down that line of conversation.

“We need to stop talking about pressure,” he said firmly. “It’s not a topic I want to discuss. I will not speak about pressure anymore.”

While Tudor focused on the positives he observed, goalscorer Solanke admitted the mood inside the dressing room was serious after the defeat. The striker revealed that the players held an honest and intense discussion immediately after the match as they confronted the reality of their situation.

“We’ve just had a big conversation,” Solanke said. “We know the position we are in is definitely not where we want to be, so we have to figure out how we’re going to get out of it as soon as possible.”

The forward acknowledged that the team has faced a difficult period but stressed that excuses are no longer acceptable if they are to escape trouble.

“We know there have been difficulties, but we’re not in a position to make excuses anymore,” he continued. “We have to do the job on the pitch. It’s easy to say we want to be better, but we have to actually show that when we play.”

Solanke also emphasised that the players must fully recognise the seriousness of their predicament and respond with the right mentality for the remainder of the season.

“We need to fight and understand the position we’re in,” he said. “This club isn’t used to being in this situation. We have to realise it won’t be easy, and we need to battle in every game and every minute to make sure we improve.”

With Tottenham’s winless run continuing and the relegation battle intensifying, the coming weeks could prove decisive for Tudor and his squad as they attempt to steer the club away from danger and restore belief both on the pitch and among the supporters.
