Tottenham Suffer Transfer Blow as Man United Prepare to Keep their star at Old Trafford this Season
Tottenham Hotspur remain determined to strengthen their attacking options before the summer transfer window closes, with the North London club still looking to add more quality and depth to the final third.
The Lilywhites have already enjoyed a busy and ambitious summer in the transfer market, addressing several of the major weaknesses that affected the squad previously. Tottenham have invested heavily in rebuilding their defence, bringing in players such as Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi as they look to become more solid at the back and provide Roberto De Zerbi with a stronger foundation ahead of the new campaign.
The club have also made significant changes in midfield. The arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali have added further technical quality, energy and experience to an area that needed strengthening. Those deals demonstrate Tottenham’s willingness to spend and compete for established players as they attempt to close the gap on the Premier League’s leading clubs.
However, despite the impressive work already completed, there remains one major weakness that Tottenham have yet to properly address — the attack.
Spurs are yet to make a major attacking addition this summer, and that could become a serious concern if the club fails to act before the transfer window closes. Tottenham have been linked with several forwards who could provide goals, creativity and versatility, but concrete progress on their attacking targets has been limited in recent days.
The situation is made even more pressing by the club’s ongoing injury problems. Tottenham need greater depth in the final third, particularly players capable of operating from the left side while also having the flexibility to play as a central striker when required.
Under De Zerbi, tactical flexibility could be extremely important. The Tottenham boss is expected to demand attackers who can interchange positions, contribute to the pressing game and provide a consistent goal threat. As a result, Spurs cannot afford to enter the new season relying too heavily on a small number of attacking options.
The pressure is therefore increasing on the Lewis family and Tottenham’s recruitment team to complete at least one major attacking deal before the window shuts. With the new Premier League campaign approaching rapidly, supporters will be hoping the club can produce another significant signing to complete what has otherwise been an ambitious summer rebuild.
Tottenham face major Marcus Rashford blow
One of the names strongly linked with a move to North London has been Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.
Tottenham reportedly viewed the England international as an attractive option for their attack, particularly after his loan spell at Barcelona. Spurs were believed to see Rashford as a player capable of immediately improving their attacking threat while also offering valuable experience at the highest level.
The 28-year-old’s versatility would also make him an appealing option. Rashford can operate from the left wing, play through the middle and provide pace in behind defensive lines — qualities that could potentially suit De Zerbi’s attacking system.
Tottenham were reportedly interested in exploring a permanent deal for the Manchester United academy graduate, despite his significant £325,000-per-week wages. An offer in the region of €42 million had been suggested as a figure that could potentially tempt United into considering a permanent departure.
However, the situation now appears to have taken a dramatic turn.
According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Rashford returned to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground to link up with his teammates during pre-season. More importantly for Tottenham, the forward is reportedly leaning towards remaining at Old Trafford for the upcoming campaign.
That development could represent a significant blow to Spurs’ plans, particularly if De Zerbi had identified Rashford as one of his preferred attacking targets.
Manchester United also appear increasingly open to the possibility of keeping Rashford rather than forcing him out of the club. The door has reportedly been left open for the England international to remain at Old Trafford and continue working under Michael Carrick.
If that situation develops further, Tottenham may have little choice but to move quickly towards alternative targets.
Spurs must turn their attention elsewhere
With the transfer deadline getting closer, Tottenham cannot afford to spend too much time waiting for a deal that may ultimately fail to materialise.
The potential loss of Rashford means Spurs must now widen their search and identify another attacker capable of making an immediate difference. The club need someone who can contribute goals, create chances and provide additional competition for places in the final third.

The Egypt international could offer Tottenham another intriguing option because of his pace, movement and ability to operate in different attacking positions. Marmoush has the qualities needed to provide a direct threat while also giving De Zerbi another versatile weapon to work with.
Recent reports have suggested that Marmoush could be open to exploring a move if it gives him the opportunity to secure more regular playing time. That could potentially make negotiations more straightforward than some of Tottenham’s other attacking pursuits.
For Spurs, the priority is now clear. The club have strengthened their defence and midfield considerably, but the job will not be complete until they add more firepower to the attack.
With the new season approaching and injuries already creating concerns, Tottenham need to make a decisive move. Whether that means reviving their pursuit of another high-profile forward or pushing ahead with a move for Marmoush, the next few weeks could prove crucial.
