Tottenham and Barcelona Hit Harry Kane Roadblock as Bayern Munich Launch Huge Contract Fight
Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona have reportedly made enquiries about the availability of Harry Kane, but both clubs appear to be facing a major uphill battle if they are serious about taking the England captain away from Bayern Munich this summer.
According to reports from TEAMtalk, Bayern Munich are increasingly confident that Kane will commit his long-term future to the Bundesliga champions by signing a new three-year contract. Negotiations are believed to be accelerating, with Bayern determined to put an end to the growing speculation surrounding the striker’s future.
The developments will come as a major blow to Tottenham, particularly after the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly reignited the possibility of Kane making an emotional return to North London.
Kane remains Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer and one of the most important players in the club’s modern history. His return would undoubtedly represent one of the biggest transfer stories in Premier League history.
However, despite Spurs’ interest, Kane’s current priority appears to be remaining in Bavaria.
Bayern determined to keep their superstar
Bayern Munich have little intention of allowing one of the most prolific strikers in world football to walk away.
Kane is entering the final year of his current contract, creating an obvious opportunity for clubs around Europe to test Bayern’s resolve. Barcelona and Tottenham have both reportedly explored the possibility of signing him, but neither side has yet presented an offer capable of changing Kane’s thinking.
The German giants are reportedly willing to make a significant commitment to the 33-year-old because they remain convinced that his extraordinary goalscoring record makes him indispensable.
And it is difficult to argue with the numbers.
Since arriving at Bayern, Kane has been nothing short of sensational, scoring 146 goals and providing 33 assists in just 147 appearances. His performances last season were even more staggering, with the striker finding the net 61 times and registering seven assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.
Those figures explain exactly why Bayern are so desperate to secure his future.
Rather than viewing Kane’s age as a major concern, Bayern appear convinced that his fitness, intelligence, finishing ability and consistency allow him to remain a central figure in their plans for years to come.
Barcelona refuse to give up
Barcelona’s interest in Kane is also understood to be genuine.
The Catalan giants have reportedly remained in contact with Kane’s representatives throughout the summer as they prepare for the eventual end of Robert Lewandowski’s spell at the club. Barcelona have also continued their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, but Kane is believed to be much more than a simple alternative option.
A move to Spain could offer Kane another fascinating chapter in his already remarkable career.
The England captain has reportedly considered what life in La Liga could look like, but there is currently no compelling reason for him to abandon his position at Bayern.
Barcelona would have to produce an extremely attractive proposal to persuade both Kane and Bayern to reconsider the situation.
Tottenham dreaming of a sensational reunion
For Tottenham supporters, the situation is perhaps even more frustrating.
Spurs are searching for a new number nine, while De Zerbi would reportedly welcome the opportunity to work with Kane and bring the club legend back to where his senior career truly exploded.
A Kane return would instantly transform Tottenham’s attack and provide a huge emotional boost to supporters.
Yet, despite the romantic appeal of the move, Kane does not currently appear to be planning a return.
Bayern are pushing hard to get the new agreement completed, with the club reportedly hopeful of reaching an agreement before the end of August.
Interestingly, however, a three-year extension would not necessarily mean Kane could never return to Tottenham.
A future reunion could still happen later in his career, particularly given his deep connection with the club.
For now, though, Tottenham and Barcelona may have to watch from the sidelines as Bayern Munich attempt to secure their superstar striker for the long term.
Kane’s decision could therefore become one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer and unless something dramatic changes, Bavaria appears set to remain his home.
