Tottenham’s Endrick Blow Could Trigger a Stunning Savinho Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer strategy under Roberto De Zerbi is becoming increasingly fascinating, with the club attempting to blend proven Premier League experience with exciting young talent. After strengthening the spine of the squad with established names such as Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke and Sandro Tonali, Spurs have also been exploring opportunities to bring some of Europe’s brightest youngsters to North London.
However, that ambitious approach has already come with some difficult decisions. Luka Vuskovic has reportedly been moved on to Brighton and Hove Albion, while Lucas Bergvall could also be facing an uncertain future before the transfer window closes.
Despite those departures, Tottenham remain determined to add youthful attacking quality. They have already secured Mateus Fernandes and were heavily interested in Bournemouth sensation Eli Junior Kroupi before a metatarsal injury effectively ended hopes of a summer move.
Then came another tantalising possibility: Real Madrid wonderkid Endrick.
Spurs Suffer Major Endrick Disappointment
Tottenham had reportedly explored the possibility of bringing Endrick to England after the Brazilian’s future at Real Madrid became uncertain. The arrival of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig appeared to create even more competition for places, while Endrick had already endured a frustrating period in Spain.
The 20-year-old struggled for regular opportunities and eventually joined Lyon on loan in January. That temporary move, however, transformed his reputation.
Endrick exploded into life in Ligue 1, contributing to 12 goals in just 14 starts. His performances demonstrated the explosive combination of pace, creativity, dribbling and finishing that had made him one of the most highly rated young attackers in world football.
Operating predominantly from the right, the left-footed Brazilian averaged 1.9 key passes and 2.3 successful dribbles per game. His dribbling numbers were particularly impressive, putting him level with Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola among Ligue 1’s leading players.
For Tottenham, Endrick appeared to represent the kind of statement signing that could completely transform De Zerbi’s attacking options.
Unfortunately for Spurs, that dream now appears to be over.
Reports indicate that Endrick will remain at Real Madrid after the club and returning manager Jose Mourinho decided that the Brazilian should stay and fight for his place. Tottenham therefore look set to miss out on one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.
Savinho Could Become Spurs’ Answer
But Tottenham may already have an alternative.
Savinho is reportedly edging closer to a permanent move from Manchester City, with reports suggesting that all parties are increasingly keen to make the transfer happen.
A deal worth around £60 million could eventually take the Brazilian winger to North London, and while he may not carry exactly the same superstar reputation as Endrick, his statistics suggest Spurs could still be landing an explosive attacking weapon.
Savinho has already demonstrated his ability to dominate defenders. During his outstanding 2023/24 campaign with Girona, he averaged an incredible 2.8 successful dribbles per game across 35 starts.
Even more impressively, he finished top of the LaLiga charts for total successful dribbles, ahead of established superstars such as Lamine Yamal and Vinicius Junior.
That season also produced 10 assists and 14 big chances created, highlighting that Savinho is far more than a player who simply beats defenders.
A £60m Gamble That Could Become a Masterstroke
Savinho’s first season at Manchester City was also encouraging. Despite struggling to nail down a regular starting position, he still managed eight Premier League assists during the 2024/25 campaign.
The following season proved more frustrating, with Pep Guardiola handing him only seven league starts. Like Endrick’s spell at Lyon, however, a change of environment could be exactly what Savinho needs to rediscover his best form.
Tottenham could provide that platform.
De Zerbi is building a team designed to play aggressive, technical and entertaining football, and Savinho’s speed and dribbling ability could make him a devastating weapon in that system.
Missing out on Endrick will undoubtedly frustrate Tottenham supporters, particularly after the excitement surrounding his Lyon breakthrough. But if Spurs can complete the signing of Savinho, they may soon discover that they have found a spectacular alternative.
At around £60 million, the transfer could initially look expensive. Yet if Savinho reaches the level his talent suggests is possible, Tottenham could eventually look back on the deal as one of the biggest bargains of the De Zerbi era.
The Endrick door may have slammed shut, but Spurs could be preparing to unleash another Brazilian sensation on the Premier League.
