Bad News For Tottenham As Most-Wanted Star Turns His Back On Spurs And Insists On Joining Another Club
Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a significant blow in their search for attacking reinforcements, with Tottenham-linked free agent Dusan Vlahovic reportedly closing in on a move to Turkish giants Besiktas.
Spurs are expected to make major changes to their attacking options ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge. The club’s hierarchy remains determined to strengthen the squad, particularly in the final third, after Tottenham struggled to find enough goals consistently.
One of Tottenham’s priorities is believed to be adding more quality and depth to their attack. The North London club are working on a potential deal for Manchester City winger Savinho, but the Brazilian is not expected to be the only attacking player considered by the club this summer.
Tottenham are also looking for another centre-forward who can provide goals, physical presence and greater competition for places. Dominic Solanke and Richarlison have both experienced fitness problems, making it difficult for Spurs to rely on either player to remain available throughout an entire campaign.
Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi had previously emerged as one of Tottenham’s leading targets. However, his metatarsal injury, which is expected to keep him out for several months, forced Spurs to explore alternative options in the transfer market.
Tottenham miss out on former Juventus star
One of the names reportedly considered by Tottenham was Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbian striker became available as a free agent after leaving Juventus when his contract expired earlier this summer, making him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen without paying a transfer fee.
However, Tottenham’s hopes of bringing the former Juventus forward to North London now appear to be fading rapidly.
According to reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Vlahovic has reached an agreement on personal terms with Besiktas. The 26-year-old has reportedly given the green light to a three-year contract with the Turkish side, with his medical expected to be the next step before the move is completed.
The potential transfer would see Vlahovic begin a new chapter in his career after several seasons in Italian football.
Interestingly, the striker is also set to reunite with Vincenzo Italiano at Besiktas. The pair previously worked together at Fiorentina, where Vlahovic enjoyed his breakthrough period and established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young strikers.
His performances in Florence eventually attracted the attention of Juventus, who paid around €75 million to sign him in 2022. Although his time in Turin did not always reach the expected heights, Vlahovic still produced impressive numbers, scoring 68 goals and providing 16 assists in 168 appearances for the club.
Another attacking option disappears for Spurs
For Tottenham, Vlahovic’s expected move to Besiktas represents another frustrating development in their search for a reliable goalscorer.
The Serbian international would have offered De Zerbi a powerful and physically imposing option in attack. His ability to hold up the ball, attack crosses and finish chances could have provided Tottenham with a different dimension in the final third.
Spurs have lacked a consistent focal point in attack at various stages over the past two seasons, and Vlahovic’s profile could have addressed some of those concerns.
Instead, Tottenham now appear to be facing a shrinking list of realistic striker options as they attempt to complete their attacking rebuild before the new season gets fully underway.
With Kroupi unavailable because of injury and Vlahovic seemingly heading to Turkey, Tottenham’s recruitment team may now have to move quickly to identify another centre-forward capable of making an immediate impact.
De Zerbi will be hoping the club can avoid further disappointment and bring in the attacking reinforcements needed to give Tottenham greater firepower, physicality and experience in front of goal.
