Tottenham Hotspur are turning up the pressure in their pursuit of Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, with the North London club reportedly making formal contact as Roberto De Zerbi looks to complete what could become one of the biggest attacking moves of the summer.
Spurs have already transformed their squad during a hugely ambitious transfer window. Martin Dúbravka has arrived from Newcastle United to provide experienced goalkeeping depth, while Andrew Robertson brings elite Premier League experience, leadership and quality at left-back. Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke have strengthened the heart of the defence, giving De Zerbi more options and composure when building from the back.
In midfield, Tottenham have gone even bigger. Mateus Fernandes offers energy, creativity, pressing and progressive passing, while Sandro Tonali brings elite experience, intensity and leadership. Yet despite all that spending and squad rebuilding, one major question remains: where is the explosive attacker capable of making the difference in decisive moments?
That is where Gakpo could come in.
Tottenham have made no secret of their desire to add another left-winger before the transfer window closes. Manchester City winger Savinho has also been on their radar, but Gakpo is increasingly emerging as the player who could provide the biggest immediate impact.

According to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, Tottenham have made “formal” contact regarding a move for Gakpo, while the player is reportedly open to leaving Liverpool before the summer window closes.
That development could be enormous for Spurs.
Tottenham may now be waiting for Liverpool’s plans to become clearer. The Reds are reportedly pursuing other attacking targets, including Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. If Liverpool succeed in bringing in additional attacking talent, Gakpo’s position could suddenly become far less secure.
That could create the opening Tottenham have been waiting for.
The Dutchman has already demonstrated that he can perform at the highest level, and his previous spell of impressive form helped Liverpool during their Premier League title-winning campaign under Arne Slot. Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has also previously praised Gakpo’s qualities, highlighting the level the Dutch international can reach when confidence and consistency come together.
