Tottenham Wait On Star’s Decision As Fabrizio Romano Reveals His Choice

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to remain active in the transfer market, with the club aiming to complete at least three more signings before the summer transfer window closes, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have already enjoyed an extremely busy start to the summer window, completing six new arrivals by the beginning of July. The club moved quickly to strengthen key areas of the squad, particularly in defence and midfield, as Roberto De Zerbi looks to build a team capable of competing at a much higher level.

However, Tottenham’s transfer activity has slowed in recent weeks as the club turns its attention towards the attacking positions. The north London side are now prioritising the addition of new wingers, while also considering whether another centre-forward should be brought in before the September 1 deadline.

Savinho remains Tottenham’s priority

One of Tottenham’s biggest priorities is Manchester City winger Savinho. Spurs are believed to see the Brazilian as their preferred option for strengthening the wide areas and are continuing to explore the possibility of reaching an agreement with City.

Romano has revealed that Savinho remains the priority, although Tottenham have already identified an alternative should they fail to complete the deal. Pedro Neto is reportedly the back-up option, meaning Spurs have two major targets in their sights for the winger position.

Speaking on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, Romano explained that Tottenham’s situation is essentially a choice between Savinho and Neto, with the Manchester City star currently leading the race.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Savinho, however, is not straightforward. Manchester City are reportedly keen to find a replacement before considering allowing the winger to leave, creating another obstacle for Spurs as they attempt to accelerate negotiations.

Gakpo also remains on Tottenham’s radar

Alongside their pursuit of a winger, Tottenham are also pushing to sign Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo is understood to be a player Spurs want to bring to north London, with talks continuing on a regular basis. Romano stated that there are daily conversations surrounding the deal and, importantly for Tottenham, the Netherlands international is believed to be open to joining the club.

Liverpool, however, are also expected to want a suitable replacement before agreeing to part ways with one of their important attacking players. That could make negotiations difficult, particularly with the transfer deadline approaching.

Tottenham therefore face a race against time if they want to complete deals for both Savinho and Gakpo.

Spurs could still sign another striker

While Tottenham’s plans for the winger positions appear relatively clear, their intentions regarding a new striker are less certain.

Romano confirmed that the club are also discussing the possibility of signing a central striker, although there is currently no clear standout candidate for the position.

Tottenham have been linked with several forwards during the summer. One of those was Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, who had reportedly attracted interest from Spurs before suffering an injury that could keep him out for several months.

Folarin Balogun has also been mentioned as a potential target. However, reports of Tottenham making a serious move for the Monaco striker have been played down, meaning the club may have to consider other options if they decide that another striker is necessary.

Another name linked with Spurs is Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian forward could potentially provide additional versatility and goals in the final third, although it remains unclear whether Tottenham will make a concrete approach.

Toney could offer Premier League experience

One potential solution would be a move for Ivan Toney.

The England international already has extensive Premier League experience from his time at Brentford and has proven that he can consistently score goals at the highest level of English football.

Toney has also continued to impress since moving to Saudi Arabia, producing excellent numbers for Al Ahli. His experience, physical presence and ability to contribute immediately could make him an attractive option if Tottenham decide that they need another proven striker.

Unlike some of the other forwards Spurs have been linked with, Toney would not need a lengthy adaptation period to the Premier League. That could be particularly important for De Zerbi, who will want his new signings to make an immediate impact.

Osimhen remains a difficult option

Victor Osimhen would also represent a major attacking addition, but a move for the Nigerian striker could prove significantly more complicated.

The forward is one of Europe’s most established goalscorers, but Tottenham would face concerns over his wages and the financial demands involved in completing such a transfer. His lack of Premier League experience could also mean that the club would have to carefully consider whether the investment is worth the risk.

For now, Tottenham’s clearest focus appears to be on strengthening the wings, with Savinho and Gakpo remaining high on their list and Neto providing an alternative for the former.

With the transfer deadline getting closer, Spurs must now decide how aggressively they want to pursue their remaining targets. If Romano’s information proves correct, Tottenham could still complete at least three more additions before the window closes, potentially giving De Zerbi a significantly stronger attacking squad for the new season.

The coming weeks could therefore be crucial for Tottenham, with the club facing important decisions over Savinho, Gakpo, Neto and the possibility of adding another striker to complete what has already been a major summer rebuild.
