“It’s all right spending a lot of money, but you’ve got to make these players into a team. I still can’t get £100m for Tonali, hugely overpriced,” King said.
His comments have immediately added another layer of pressure to a Tottenham project that has already attracted enormous attention.

King believes Tottenham have repeatedly paid inflated prices in the transfer market.
He particularly highlighted the situation involving Conor Gallagher, arguing that Spurs had previously had an opportunity to sign the midfielder for a considerably lower fee while he was at Chelsea.
Instead, according to King, Tottenham eventually paid a much larger amount for him after his move to Atletico Madrid.
“You’re paying silly figures for pretty ordinary players, as far as I’m concerned. And Spurs have certainly paid an awful lot of money,” King added.
He also questioned Gallagher’s adaptation, suggesting that the midfielder has yet to fully settle.
The criticism is particularly significant because Tottenham’s spending has created expectations that are almost impossible to ignore.
When a club spends more than £400m in one transfer window, supporters naturally expect immediate improvement.
De Zerbi Remains Confident
Despite the negativity surrounding Tottenham’s start, De Zerbi has remained remarkably confident about the quality of his squad.

“I’m very happy. We brought all very good players. Especially because they wanted to come. I want players proud and happy to stay here,” De Zerbi said.

“To play football now you need big motivation, big ambitions. Without that part it’s impossible to make results,” he explained.
De Zerbi even described Tottenham as having a “great squad” and a “great team,” despite the disappointing opening results.

Tonali’s £100m price tag means every performance will be heavily scrutinised. Gallagher and the club’s other expensive recruits will face similar pressure to justify the enormous investment.
