Tottenham reportedly start payment plan for £100M star ahead of the coming months
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering another major move in the transfer market as the club looks for solutions to their disappointing start to the new Premier League campaign.
The Lilywhites endured a difficult 2024/25 season under Ange Postecoglou, finishing 17th in the Premier League. Despite their poor league position, Tottenham were not involved in a serious relegation battle during that particular campaign.
The situation became far more concerning last season, however, as Spurs found themselves fighting for Premier League survival for much of the campaign. Their top-flight status was eventually secured on the final day of the season when Tottenham recorded a crucial 1-0 victory over Everton.
That result ensured Spurs would remain in the Premier League, although they once again finished 17th, collecting just 41 points from their league campaign.
With the club determined to avoid another difficult season, Tottenham decided to make significant changes during the summer transfer window. The North London side invested heavily in the squad, committing a huge amount of money to new players in an attempt to provide new manager Roberto De Zerbi with the quality and depth needed to compete at a much higher level.
However, the early signs of the new campaign have been far from encouraging.
Tottenham have struggled to find consistency in the Premier League and are yet to record a victory after their opening five matches. The Lilywhites currently sit at the bottom of the table with just two points, increasing the pressure on De Zerbi and his players.
Their problems were made even worse last week when Spurs suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, a result that brought their Carabao Cup campaign to an early end.
With Tottenham already struggling in the league and now out of the domestic cup competition, attention has reportedly started turning towards the January transfer window.
The club are understood to be exploring potential attacking and creative options who could strengthen De Zerbi’s squad and provide an additional spark during the second half of the season.
Tottenham target Morgan Gibbs-White
One of the players reportedly attracting Tottenham’s attention is Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham have identified the England international as a potential January target and could make a concrete approach for his signature when the mid-season transfer window opens.
Spurs’ interest in Gibbs-White is not entirely new. Tottenham have previously explored the possibility of signing the midfielder and reportedly attempted to secure his services last year.
However, Nottingham Forest were unwilling to part ways with one of their most important players and rejected the opportunity to sell him.
Tottenham’s admiration for the 26-year-old has apparently remained intact, with the club continuing to monitor his progress. His performances and development have reportedly strengthened their belief that he could be an important addition to De Zerbi’s midfield.
Gibbs-White is currently valued at around £60 million by Transfermarkt, while he has entered the final two years of his existing contract at Nottingham Forest.
That contract situation could potentially make his future an interesting one to watch, although Forest may still be reluctant to lose such an influential player during the middle of the season. Whether the club would consider a January sale could depend heavily on the size of Tottenham’s offer.
Why Gibbs-White could fit De Zerbi’s plans
Gibbs-White is primarily known as a creative midfielder, capable of operating between the lines and creating opportunities for his teammates.
