Tottenham Want Aston Villa Star As Spurs Wait For Approval To Complete £100M Deal
Aston Villa are reportedly expecting Emiliano Martinez to leave the club before the transfer window closes, with Tottenham Hotspur emerging as a potential destination for the experienced goalkeeper.
Former Villa chief executive Keith Wyness believes Martinez’s future could go right down to the final days of the transfer window, but he still expects the Argentine international to complete a move away from Villa Park before the deadline.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been linked with several clubs this summer, with a potential move to Juventus recently falling apart at the final stages. Concerns over a finger injury reportedly played a role in the Italian club stepping away from the deal.
However, Martinez could now have another opportunity to secure a move, with Tottenham understood to be monitoring his situation closely. Spurs are reportedly considering a late approach as they assess their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
Aston Villa prepare for Martinez departure
Villa appear to have already planned for life without Martinez after securing the signing of young goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The arrival of Suzuki has given the club greater flexibility as they look to find a suitable solution for Martinez’s future.
According to Wyness, Villa have handled the situation carefully by bringing in their new goalkeeper before allowing Martinez to leave. He believes the decision has prevented the club from being placed under unnecessary pressure during negotiations.
Wyness explained that if Villa had sold Martinez first, they could have been forced to pay more for Suzuki because the club would have been desperate to replace their experienced goalkeeper immediately.
“I do expect them to come to a deal and a price for him to go, and I expect that to be done in the next couple of weeks. It could well be a last-day signing, but I do expect him to go,” Wyness said.
He also believes Martinez would not be satisfied with a role as a second-choice goalkeeper and feels the veteran still has plenty to offer at another club.
“It’s been this dance before with Martinez about him going or not going. I think Villa have done it the right way round in terms of getting the young number one in and getting him signed first,” he added.
“If they got rid of Martinez first, they might have been squeezed a bit further on the fee for Suzuki, so I think they’ve done that right.”
Tottenham consider late Martinez move
Tottenham are now reportedly looking at Martinez as a possible late addition to their squad. The opportunity has emerged after his proposed transfer to Juventus collapsed, leaving the Argentine available for another club to pursue.
Spurs have been preparing for Antonin Kinsky to take on a more prominent role, but Martinez’s availability has seemingly changed the situation. The North London club are understood to be weighing up whether to make a serious move for the World Cup-winning goalkeeper.
Tottenham have already benefited from the collapse of Martinez’s Juventus move in another way. The Italian giants have reportedly completed a deal for Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, creating further movement between the two clubs.
Now, Spurs could potentially turn their attention to Martinez as they continue to strengthen their squad.
Martinez could be heading for a late exit
Martinez has been a major figure at Aston Villa since joining the club and has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most recognisable goalkeepers. His performances have also helped him become Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper and a key part of their international success.
Despite his importance to Villa in recent seasons, his long-term future at the club has increasingly looked uncertain. Villa now appear prepared to part ways with the experienced shot-stopper if the right offer arrives.
With the transfer deadline approaching, Martinez’s next move could therefore become one of the late stories of the window.
Tottenham’s interest could provide him with a fresh opportunity in the Premier League, while Villa would be able to move forward with their new goalkeeping plans.
For now, Martinez remains a Villa player, but with Spurs monitoring the situation and Villa expecting him to leave, the goalkeeper’s future could be decided in dramatic fashion during the final days of the transfer window.
